Due to increased tournament revenue ensuring that such gains have been allocated to winning teams, the World Cup winner now receives an overall sum that is more than five times greater than it was twenty years ago.

The men's and women's World Cup prize money amounts continue to be drastically different. There is a difference of $380 million between the prize money for the 2023 Women's World Cup and the total prize money for the World Cup in 2022, which is only $60 million.

Pelé, a great player from Brazil, also thanked Lionel Messi and Argentina for winning the World Cup and Kylian Mbappé for scoring goals in the final on Sunday. Pelé, who as a player won a record three World Cups, has been treated for a respiratory infection in the hospital.
After Argentina beat France 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a 3-3 draw at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, he posted his message on Instagram.

Pelé wrote in his post, "Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way." As deserved given his trajectory, Messi won his first World Cup. Mbappé, my dear friend, scoring four goals in a championship game. What a gift it was to watch this display to the eventual fate of our game."

In the match, Messi scored two goals and finally won the trophy that had been missing from his remarkable career. Mbappé became only the second player in history to score a hat trick in the World Cup final, scoring in the title match in 2018 when he was a teenager, just like Pelé did in 1958.

In the penalty shootout, Messi and Mbappé also scored goals. Mbappé won the Golden Boot award for leading scorer with eight goals in seven matches, while Messi took home the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.
