5 Mistakes people do during Christmas decoration

Nothing gets you in the holiday spirit quite like trimming a Christmas tree. But trying to make the ideal tree can lead to compulsive behavior. In actuality, these typical blunders could make our trees appear more horrifying than glamorous and must be avoided at all costs!

If your Christmas tree is not correctly "dressed," it may look tacky or worn out, which can range from an excess of decorations to bare limbs. Fortunately, you don't need to be an expert to construct a tree that looks like it belongs in a Hallmark film. Just be careful not to commit any of these holiday decorating mistakes to leave an impression on your guests.

1. Not starting with the lights first

Even if it's a typical error, it's more simpler to install the lights first before decorating the tree. In this manner, you can avoid working around ornaments and other collectibles and having a tangled mess of cords on display. Additionally, you don't want to undermine the tree's overall appeal. Additionally, if you have a real tree, be sure to use the appropriate lights for it. Regular string lights typically create heat that dries out the branches, but LED lights don't emit as much heat and are also more energy efficient.

2. Putting heavy decor at the top of the tree

The ideal way to decorate a Christmas tree is to start at the bottom with the larger or heavier ornaments and work your way up. Any ornaments that are medium in size or smaller should go in the center and on top. This will not only make the tree appear more aesthetically balanced, but it will also stop the heavier objects from giving the tree the appearance that it will tumble down at any moment.

Another error we frequently commit is to focus only on the front or outermost branches of the tree when decorating it, omitting the remainder of the tree. The Christmas tree's ornaments should be distributed evenly but not symmetrically, according to experts. To add depth and make it more layered, put some a few inches back into the innermost branches. You don't want any exposed bare branches or patches because most trees are visible from all sides, especially at night when the lights are on.

4. Far too many decorations (or too few!)

There is a chance of going overboard even though we could like shopping for new decorations. Keep it basic rather than covering the entire Christmas tree in glitzy decorations. Instead, pick a few of your favorites and limit the number of them so that you can still see some lighting and greenery. The entire tree can easily seem tacky if there are too many festive ornaments and styles on it. Similarly, if you don't have enough ornaments to adorn your tree, it will appear unadorned and uninspired. Therefore, it's crucial that you strike the correct balance.

5. Not choosing a theme

Using multiple themes or colors instead of just one is another typical error. Your tree will therefore appear to be an excessive mash-up of designs or hues. Themes can make Christmas trees look more manicured and tidy, just like how we decorate our houses. Whatever style you prefer—classic, modern, purple and white, etc.—pick a theme and stick with it. Once you've settled on a theme and have a limited color palette to work with, the overall appearance will be more sophisticated and pleasing to the eye.
