Additionally, Congress must select a candidate for chief minister who can unite all factions.

As a preventative measure, Congress has decided to move its newly elected MLAS out of Himachal Pradesh, where it currently leads with 40 of the 68 seats.

Rajiv Shukla, the State in-charge of the Congress, stated to reporters, "We are leading on forty seats." Why should we be concerned about "operation lotus" when these numbers will continue? Mr. Shukla alongside Chhattisgarh Boss Pastor Bhupesh Baghel who is a senior spectator of the State are gone to Chandigarh, where Haryana pioneer Bhupinder Singh Hooda is now setting up camp, sitting tight for the Congress lawmakers.

To keep the house all together, the party is staying at work longer than required to concoct a reasonable power dividing game plan among various groups. Before the election, the party did not name any candidates for chief minister. However, the names of three candidates—current Pradesh Congress president Pratibha Singh, former PCC Sukhwinder Singh Sukku, and leader of the Congress Legislative Party Mukesh Agnihotri—are making the rounds.

We have sufficient reasons to remain alert. Even though there is a significant gap between us and the BJP, they could use the Maharashtra model to break the party here, so we need to keep all our doors and windows closed,” a senior Congress official added.

The party's biggest test would be to find a Chief Minister who would be able to keep the flock together for the next five years. According to party insiders, a call will be made following consultation with Delhi's high command and state leadership.
