Results of the Himachal Pradesh poll: How Congress and BJP fared in 2022 in comparison to 2017

According to the most recent trends observed by the Election Commission of India, Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur announced his resignation despite leading in his constituency Seraj by 38,183 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress claimed victory in the Himachal Pradesh assembly election while the votes were still being counted. The state has a history of changing governments over the past few years.

According to the most recent trends observed by the Election Commission of India, Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jai Ram Thakur announced his resignation despite leading in his constituency Seraj by 38,183 votes.

According to Thakur's statement to the news agency ANI, "I will tender my resignation to the Governor in a short while from now."

Total: 68 seats

BJP: 44

Congress: 21

CPI(M): 1

Independents: 2

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Vikramaditya Singh, the son of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh, defeated BJP candidate Ravi Kumar Mehta by 13,860 votes to keep his seat. The AAP ran for 67 seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party for 53, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for 11 seats, and the BJP and Congress ran for all 68 constituencies.
